Stones Signs Extension Until 2026
John Stones is set to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2026 after agreeing to a five year extension with Manchester City.
Stones will be receiving a significant pay raise from his previous deal. The English defender is due to earn £250k a week on his new contract, which will pay him similarly to Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Manchester United's Harry Maguire.
Stones was a resurgent figure in the Manchester City team last season. Poor form and injuries in previous seasons led to Stones being buried down the pecking order in central defense. After being handed the opportunity to reclaim a spot in the first team, Stones went on to play some of the best football during his City career last season.
He figures to once again be a key part of the Manchester City backline next season. The continued success of his partnership with Ruben Dias will be key if City hope to retain the Premier League title.
It will be interesting to see what effect Stones' new deal has on the Aymeric Laporte situation.
Laporte is reportedly on of the three players who is looking to secure a move away from the club this summer. The Spanish international was a frustrated figure last season after losing his first team place to Stones.
