Raheem Sterling’s pinpoint pass kick-starts England's scoring spree in landmark win against Ukraine

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

'England’s thrashing of Ukraine began with a killer ball that deserves to be watched on loop and marvelled at for generations to come,' via Melissa Reddy, Independent Senior Football Correspondent @MelissaReddy_ . A quick glance at this morning’s headlines where Harry Kane, Manchester City target takes most of the credit, may lead you to believe that Raheem Sterling played no part in England’s 4-0 win over Ukraine, but this isn't the case. The Boy from Brent has been criticized for his decision making at times and dithering on the ball, while great players like David Silva would have a snapshot of everyone’s position on the pitch before he’s received the ball hence always seemed to make the correct decision. However, Sterling’s pace in behind defenders coupled with ability of being in the right place at the right time for the easy tap in, more than justifies his selection.

England manager, Gareth Southgate has belief in Raheem Sterling even though Sterling’s most recent Man City form has been poor by the very high standards he has set under Pep Guardiola.

Sterling scored the only goal against Croatia, the only goal against the Czech Republic, the opening goal against Germany & supplied the assist for the opening goal against the Ukraine! Where would England be now without our Boy from Brent?
