Pre-match Report: Barnsley

Manchester City continue their preparations for the Community Shield match against Leicester City, the first official game of the season.

Manchester City, which recently defeated 2-0 Preston North End with a predominantly youth squad, will face Barnsley, also known as The Tykes, this time.

Manchester City, whose academy was closed due to the COVID outbreak on 16 July, could not benefit from all of its young talents. Liam Delap draws the greatest attention in this regard. The young star has scored 24 goals at the PL2, and in the total, he has reached 30 goals.

With Aguero's departure from the team, Jesus not returning from the national team and Harry Kane's transfer not clarified, the young star, who has a chance to start a possible The Community Shield match in the first 11, has been training in a self-isolated manner since the closure of the Academy, and the young core's time has not been clarified. He also did not have time in the Preston North End game he took. Contrary to speculation, it is also among the rumors that Liam Delap suffered an injury after COVID.

In addition to the senior players -Fernandinho, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo, Ben Mendy, Zack Steffen, and Riyad Mahrez- who took time in the last match, Gundogan and Zinchenko can also take their time. Though the German star has only been training since Wednesday, it wouldn't be surprising if he got some time before the Community Shield.

On the other hand, Barnsley also known as The Tykes which comes from a Yorkshire character, hard-working and traditional, played 3 friendly matches so far this season and won all of these matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding only 1 goal. They parted ways with their successful coach, Valerien Ismael, and signed with Markus Schopp instead. They seem to have made well start to this period, which has been a busy preseason for them as well like recent opponent Preston North End. Even though they ended last season with Swansea being eliminated in the playoffs, their biggest goal is obviously to promote to the Premier League.

You can watch the friendly against Barnsley on City+ where kick-off is at 6 PM.
