Julian Alvarez Signs for Manchester City
Manchester City have officially signed River Plate's Julian Alvarez for £14 million. Alvarez has signed a five and a half year contract with the club, and will return to River Plate on loan until July.
The 22 year old Argentina International is coming off of a stellar season for River Plate, as he scored 20 goals in 35 league appearances. Alvarez was impressive throughout his career with Plate, totaling 36 goal and 25 assists in 96 appearances for the club. He has also already received five caps for the Argentina National Team.
It seems as though the club have found Pep Guardiola another versatile forward who can operate in any position along the front three. However, it is worth noting that Alvarez most often featured as a Centre Forward in River Plate's setup. Could he be an unforeseen solution to Manchester City's Striker woes?
Manchester City will surely look to spend in a more established option this Summer. A long time reported target in Dusan Vlahovic has recently been taken off the market, signing with Juventus this past week. Other options such as Erling Haaland and Harry Kane remain.
With the hunt for a Striker still on, and City's already ridiculous squad depth, Alvarez's path to the first team will not be straightforward.
His integration into the squad this coming Summer will be something to keep an eye on.
